Just Married, Gone Too Soon: 28-Year-Old Air India Express Pilot Dies of Cardiac Arrest Soon After Landing

A 28-year-old Air India Express pilot, who had recently gotten married, tragically died after suffering a cardiac arrest shortly after landing a flight.
The young pilot reportedly vomited inside the cockpit moments after bringing the plane to a safe landing.
Confirming the news, an Air India Express spokesperson said, “We deeply regret the loss of a valued colleague due to a medical condition. Our thoughts are with the family during this time of profound grief. We are extending all possible assistance to them as we all cope with this tremendous loss.”
The airline also appealed for privacy, urging the public and media to avoid speculation.
“We request all concerned to respect privacy at this time and avoid unnecessary speculation while we commit to assisting the relevant authorities in due process,” the spokesperson added.
Pilot Fatigue in Focus Amid DGCA Reforms
This incident comes amid growing scrutiny over pilot fatigue and duty hours. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is currently pushing for revised regulations to ensure better rest periods for pilots.
According to The Hindu report, in a recent submission to the Delhi High Court, the DGCA outlined a phased reform plan to enhance flight duty norms. From July 1, 2025, weekly rest periods for pilots could increase from 36 to 48 hours and the reduction in night flying “rolled out” from November 1, 2025.
On February 24, the Delhi High Court instructed the DGCA to adhere to its proposed timeline. Justice Tara Vitasta Ganju was informed that 15 out of 22 updated Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) clauses would be implemented by July, with the remaining set for November.
Lawyers representing pilots’ associations have pressed for strict compliance, citing mounting concerns over mental and physical strain in the cockpit.
The DGCA, through its counsel, responded by saying, “We have already filed the affidavit and we are bound by the affidavit. The court may consider disposing of the writ petitions as nothing survives in the pleas now.”
