It’s Karma says Assam CM Sarma on RaGa’s disqualification as LS MP

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that it is karma that has hit back at Rahul Gandhi.
The Chief Minister was reacting for the first time to the Congress leader being disqualified as Lok Sabha MP.
“Karma has struck him back. How can we (BJP govt) be wrong? In Hinduism we believe that Karma strikes You back, so if Karma has struck you back than how are we (BJP govt) at fault?”
CM Sarma said.
He complimented the judiciary for the judgement convicting Gandhi for two years for his ‘Modi surname’ remarks and said that if someone does not agree with it then they can approach a higher court.
“Judiciary has done good. If you do not accept as to what the court has said than you go to a higher court. As far as disqualification is concerned, the ordinance which was brought to prevent immediate disqualification of a member of the House, that was itself violated by Rahul Gandhi.
When Dr Singh (Manmohan Singh) was the Prime Minister, he had brought this ordinance so that there is no immediate disqualification of an MP, you (Rahul Gandhi) yourself had violated it”, CM Sarma said.
Worth mentioning the 2013 ordinance, promulgated by the then Manmohan Singh Cabinet, was incidentally withdrawn after the then Congress Vice-president Rahul Gandhi publicly termed it “complete nonsense” and asserted that “it should be torn up and thrown away.”
Himanta Biswa Sarma teared into the Congress leader for his alleged defamatory remarks against the OBC community that led to his conviction in a Surat court and subesquent disqualification as an MP. Sarma said that Rahul Gandhi’s remarks were intentional.
Sarma said,”the matter would have been closed, but Rahul Gandhi has not apologized, neither withdrawn the comment against the community for long 5 years. So that once again goes to prove that comments were not unintentional. The comments were intentional and it was made to abuse the OBC community of the country.”
“That apology could have been rendered to the OBC community immediately after the speech or 24 hrs after that. But he has not done, he behaved arrogantly. The Court has to balance between the arrogancy of an individual and pride and prestige of the OBC community,” Himanta Biswa Sarma added.
It may be mentioned that Gandhi made the “how come all the thieves have Modi as the common surname” remark in April 2019, at a Lok Sabha election rally at Kolar in Karnataka.
Reacting to Congress allegations, the Rahul Gandhi was allegedly “deliberately disqualified,” the BJP’s top strategist for Northeast Live said,”You see Rahul Gandhi has not been disqualified by the GoI. Rahul Gandhi has been convicted by a court of law and why he has been convicted because he has in his speech used unparliamentaty, defamatory words against the OBC community.”
“This is not a personal fight, there is no politics behind this,” Sarma added.
Rahul Gandhi was disqualified as an MP on Friday in compliance with the Surat trial court order, which had on Thursday convicted him in a criminal defamation case and sentenced him to two years.
The disqualification will bar Gandhi, a four-time MP, from contesting polls for eight years unless a higher court stays his conviction and sentence.
