Korma, Coke, bhindi and peacock: Imran Khan supporters raid top general’s house and fridge

First Published: 10th May, 2023 17:38 IST

After Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan's arrest on Tuesday, his supporters raided the house and fridge of Lahore Corps Commander

Pakistanis are angry, no, they are hangry!! And what better way to cool the tempers than dipping into some delectable korma and washing it down with thanda Coca Cola?

Excellent idea! And it is bound to be more soothing, raided from the fridge of one of Pakistan’s top generals.

Protesting supporters of former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief and former prime minister Imran Khan did just that.

It was a free-for-all as an angry mob stormed the residence of Lahore Corps Commander on Tuesday after Imran Khan was arrested from outside the Islamabad high court, India Today reported.

They broke into the house of the Corps Commander in Lahore and whatever they could lay their hands on, became their own.

And as if Imran’s Khan had predicted just that.

The PTI chief, hours before his arrest, warned the military establishment to “get ready to be held accountable by the people”.

And the people made them accountable. For expensive chandeliers, tabletops and delicacies in the fridge.

If one took away korma, topping it up with okra, and a big bottle of cola, some others partied with frozen strawberries. And a small tub of curd was on the loot card too.

Watch the video:

Videos of the loot have gone viral.

There were scathing comments too regarding the opulence of the military rulers of a country that is teetering on the brink of bankruptcy.

Netizens commented that the loot was like Pakistanis, who have been struggling in long queues for atta, hitting a jacckpot.

Videos also showed people making their way out of the military commander’s residence in Lahore with a box of salad and a packet of tomato ketchup. A person took a bunch of falsa or sherbet berry from the general’s kitchen.

There was some fowl play too.

One of the viral clips showed a person with looted poultry.

What ‘mor’, another protester took away a peacock. The person cradling the peacock called it “public money”.

“Have taken the peacock from the Corps Commander’s house, this is public money which he had looted. I am taking it back,” the person said.

Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and other major cities across the country saw PTI supporters block main highways to voice their anger.

Protesters burnt tree bushes, tyres and threw bricks and blocks on the roads leading to the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, while others pelted stones and bricks at the main gate of the GHQ.

The raiding of the fridge and kitchen of Lahore Corps Commander was part of the widespread protests.
