"I felt like toilet paper, used when needed, discarded without a second thought," she said.

A resignation letter written on toilet paper has gone viral on LinkedIn, sparking widespread discussion around workplace culture and employee appreciation.

The unconventional resignation was shared by Angela Yeoh, a talent acquisition director based in Singapore, who revealed the emotional weight behind the employee’s exit.

In her LinkedIn post, Yeoh described how the employee left their job with a handwritten note on toilet paper, using the act as a symbol of how they felt treated at the company.

“I have chosen this type of paper for my resignation as a symbol of how this company has treated me. I quit,” her resignation letter on toilet paper read.

While Yeoh clarified that the photo of the resignation letter may have been representational, the sentiment was very real and unforgettable.

“I felt like toilet paper, used when needed, discarded without a second thought.” She explained how the statement stayed with her, saying, “These were the exact words that stuck with me,” her LinkedIn post read.

Yeoh, who serves as Director at Summit Talent, used the moment to reflect on broader workplace dynamics.

“Make your employees feel so genuinely appreciated that even when they decide to leave, they walk away with gratitude, not resentment,” she wrote. She emphasized that such a departure does not point to disloyalty but rather says a lot about the company’s work environment,” she added.

Yeoh emphasized that appreciation is more than a retention strategy it is a fundamental indicator of how much a person is valued.

She said, “Appreciation isn’t just a tool for retention. It’s a reflection of how much a person is valued, not just for what they do but for who they are.” She urged other leaders to take such situations seriously, stating, “If people leave feeling undervalued, it’s time to reflect. Small changes in appreciation have a big impact. Start today.”

The post triggered a flood of reactions online. One user called the act “bold and relatable,” while others questioned the need for such drama.

A few pointed fingers at middle management, suggesting poor leadership often leads to resignations, not necessarily the company itself.

While the toilet paper resignation may have raised eyebrows for its dramatic flair, it also highlighted a growing issue across workplaces globally, the emotional disconnect employees often feel despite their contributions.
