Pop icon Katy Perry joined 5 other women on a brief space trip with Blue Origin today. The 11-minute flight took them to the edge of space and back to earth, marking Blue Origin’s first all-women crewed mission in over 60 years.
The rocket lifted off at 9:31 a.m. ET (1:31 p.m. GMT) from West Texas, carrying the 6-member crew to the edge of space.
The suborbital flight- New Shepard NS-31 offered the passengers a brief but awe-inspiring moment of weightlessness before safely parachuting back to Earth all streamed live by Blue Origin, the space venture founded by Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos.
Who Are the Other Women on the Mission?
Joining Perry on this landmark mission were journalist and CBS Mornings host Gayle King, producer Kerianne Flynn, aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, activist and space researcher Amanda Nguyen, and Lauren Sánchez Jeff Bezos’ fiancée, who reportedly handpicked the crew.
As the capsule floated in microgravity, Perry sang a few lines of “What a Wonderful World,” adding a poetic touch to the journey.

The NS-31 mission marked Blue Origin’s 11th human spaceflight and the most high-profile one yet.
The crew crossed the Kármán line 100 km above Earth, the internationally recognized boundary of space.
Inside the capsule, excited voices could be heard marveling at the views. “You guys, look at the moon! Oh my god!” one of them shouted.
This mission not only represents a leap for space tourism but also a powerful statement about representation and empowerment.
From NASA engineers to pop royalty, the NS-31 crew embodied a wide spectrum of talent, dreams, and stories all launched toward the stars.
