Pradyot Debbarma said this in response to Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman's allegations that the TIPRA Motha chief was silent over the issue
TIPRA Motha chief and royal scion Pradyot Debbarma today made it amply clear that his party will not allow implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in areas under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
This he said in response to Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman’s jibe of allegedly keeping mum over the issue. The Congress allegations came right after the Centre gave away the first batch of CAA certificates to 14 recipients.
The TIPRA Motha chief also stated that the needful to safeguard the indigenous Tiprasas has already been taken up in the historic Tiprasa Accord signed with the Government of India.
In a voice message, Pradyot said, “Pradyot Manikya is still fighting a case against the CAA in the Supreme Court, Sudip Roy Barman is not fighting such a case. He has asked me as to why we (TIPRA Motha)are not reacting to CAA. We will not allow CAA to be implemented in the ADC areas. The second matter is our land rights. We will fight for land pattas to be given to every Tiprasa and this point has been mentioned in our agreement with the Government of India. There are many Tiprasas outside the ADC areas who does not have any sort of security. Did you (Sudip Roy Barman) speak for that? For that too we have placed a point in our historic agreement that all areas which are outside the ADC and dominated by Tiprasas are to be included under the ADC.”
Taking potshots, Pradyot alleged that the Congress only considers the indigenous Tiprasas merely as a vote bank and nothing else.
“I love my community, but you take my community as a vote bank. There is a big difference here. Tiprasas, try to understand nothing can be achieved merely by doing politics. If you want to make your voices heard than that must be done in unity. If you do not love your Maharaj (King) there is no problem, but try to identify who is your friend and who is your enemy,” Pradyot said.
“Results will be out on June 4, we will enjoy sweets together, there will be friendship again. But you will slip in terms of politics,” the TIPRA Motha chief further said.
Earlier, Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman in a sharp attack alleged that Pradyot Debbarma was asked to keep silent by the BJP. If that was not all, Sudip Roy Barman accused the BJP of “purchasing” Pradyot Debbarma.
“The demography is going to change, the ratio in which the indigenous people are today is going to change. Those people are going to have a stake on our country’s GDP, we are not in a position our people who are born and brought up here, those who are the sons of the soil, we are unable to give them a share of the GDP and you are inviting further more people basically foreigners in the name of religion so TIPRA Motha is keeping quite because the supremo who happens to be a money monger, he has been asked to shut his mouth, because of this wrongdoings which are going to happen. But I hope all the legislators and functionaries of TIPRA Motha, they are not going to echo the voice of TIPRA Motha supremo, who is being completely purchased and who has sold himself out to the BJP,” Sudip Roy Barman said.
Worth mentioning, Tripura is preparing to implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), as announced by Chief Minister Manik Saha, despite opposition parties expressing appehensions that it might lead to increased communal tensions.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a blood donation camp at a mosque on May 17, the Tripura CM was asked about Tripura’s stance on the CAA. In his response, CM Saha said, “Now whatever directions have come from the Centre, of course we are going to implement.”
