Tripura Youth Cong Protests Release of Merit List of JRBT Group D Recruitment, Demands Transparency

The demonstrators expressed strong objections to what they described as a lack of transparency in the selection process of Group-D positions by the JRBT

The Tripura Youth Congress staged a robust protest rally today, shortly after the release of the merit list for Group-D positions conducted by the Joint Recruitment Board of Tripura (JRBT).

The demonstrators expressed strong objections to what they described as a lack of transparency in the selection process.

Protesters gathered in large numbers in front of the Directorate of Employment Services and Manpower Planning, voicing their frustration over the JRBT’s decision not to make the marks of the written examination and viva voce for selected candidates public.

Neel Kamal Saha, President of the Tripura Youth Congress said, “We want the JRBT to disclose the marks of both the written examination and viva voce for the selected candidates. We are not being able to find out about who scored what in which examination.”

The protestors have alleged that the absence of transparency has let several family members and relatives of ruling BJP Ministers, MLAs, and leaders secure positions unfairly.

They stated that without the public disclosure of marks, the integrity of the selection process is compromised.

In addition to their call for greater transparency, the protesters demanded the release of a waiting list alongside the final list of selected candidates.

Neel Kamal Saha said, “Many candidates who appeared for both Group-D and Group-C positions, including around 600 candidates from outside the state, might not join due to their selection in Group-C positions. So a waiting list would provide an opportunity for others who were not initially selected to secure employment.”

The protestors tried to meet the Director of Employment Services and Manpower Planning to address their grievances. However, they were initially stopped at the gate by the police. After managing to reach the director’s office, they found that he was not present.

Tensions escalated, leading to heated arguments and minor scuffles between the protesters and the police, who tried to prevent the Youth Congress members from entering the office premises.

The JRBT, under the aegis of the Directorate of Employment Services and Manpower Planning, had conducted two examinations of Group-D (2,410 posts) and Group-C (2,500 posts) on August 20 and 22, 2021, respectively.

A total of 1,59,713 candidates were listed as appearing for these exams, out of which over 1,31,000 had appeared for the exam.

The JRBT Group D results were announced around four years after the written examination was conducted.
