The counting of votes for Tripura’s three-tier Panchayat elections commenced today across the state, amid heightened security measures.
The election, which witnessed robust voter turnout with more than 80 percent voting, is seen as a significant indicator of rural political dynamics in the state.
Security has been beefed up around all 35 counting centers to ensure a smooth and fair process.
State paramilitary forces, along with the state police, are stationed at key points to prevent any untoward incidents.
Election officials have taken meticulous steps to ensure that the counting process of ballots is transparent and free from any discrepancies.
The Panchayat elections, which were held in a single phase, saw participation from all major political parties – ruling BJP and TIPRA Motha beside the opposition CPIM and Congress in a tight contest for control of rural Tripura despite victory of more than 70 percent seats uncontested by the ruling party.
4550 out of 6370 seats in gram panchayat bodies were won by BJP uncontested. 1819 seats in the gram panchayat bodies had seen contest, out of which BJP has put up candidates in 1818, CPIM in 1222, 731 from Congress and TIPRA Motha 138 apart from some independent candidates.
Again 244 out of 423 seats have been won uncontested in panchayat samities. Contest was seen in 189 seats, in which BJP has put up candidates in 188 seats, CPIM in 148, 98 from Congress, 11 seats from TIPRA Motha party.
Meanwhile, 20 out of 116 Zilla parishad seats went uncontested while polling was held for 96 seats in the three-tier panchayat polls on August 08.
The results of these elections will not only decide the leadership at the grassroots level but are also expected to have wider implications on the state’s political landscape.
As the counting progresses, early trends are expected to emerge by the afternoon, with final results likely to be declared by late evening.
All eyes are on the outcomes, as they will reflect the public’s sentiment and potentially set the tone for future political developments in the state.
The state election commission has assured the public and all political stakeholders that the counting process is being conducted under strict surveillance to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
