The club was alleged to be at the centre of smuggling and other anti-social activities
In a bid to wipe out crime, the Manik Saha government in Tripura in a first has initiated ‘Bulldozer Justice’ as authorities in Agartala demolished an over 70-year-old club in Usha Bazar after its members were found involved in different anti-social activities.
The club was alleged to be at the centre of smuggling and other anti-social activities.
District Magistrate and Collector West Tripura, Vishal Kumar backing the government’s action said that Chief Minister Manik Saha has a zero-tolerance policy as far as dealing with crimes in the state is concerned.
He said that the government has acted against the construction as per the rules. Along with punishment, the government has a vision of development in this demolition drive.
Vishal Kumar stated that no organisation, no person who is indulged in smuggling, drug peddling or one who is a land mafia or who interferes in the government’s tender negotiations will be spared and strict action will be taken against all those.
The DM maintained that several members of the club are already in jail having allegations of crime against them.
Vishal Kumar said that there is a plan to build a primary healthcare system on this land.
SP of West Tripura district, Kiran Kumar said, “After a thorough investigation of the club, it is clear that the whole construction is illegal. So, we are demolishing the structure.”
