Tripura is grappling with one of the worst floods in 67 years since 1956. The death toll from the catastrophic floods has mounted to 19.
Currently, over 1,00,000 people across all eight districts of the state are living in the 450 relief camps and as many as 17 lakh people have been affected due to the devastating floods.
Chief Minister Manik Saha has been actively engaged in overseeing the relief and rescue operations. He conducted an aerial survey today to evaluate the damage, particularly in the flood-hit Gomati and South Tripura districts.
The Chief Minister informed that air-dropping of essential food items is being carried out using Mi-17 helicopters for the severely affected people in Amarpur and Karbook under the Gomati district.
CM Saha said that 26 teams of SDRF, 4 teams of NDRF have been deployed for rescue operations and three helicopters have been dispatched for rescue and relief supply.
During his visit, CM Saha emphasized the state’s commitment to delivering essential support and resources to those affected and said that initiatives have already been taken to rescue the affected people and provide them with relief and healthcare.
He also visited the state emergency operation centre of the state which has been maintaining regular contact with the rescue personnel engaged in serving the affected people and visited the relief camps at Khilpara Higher Secondary School and Khilpara Market Shed to assess the conditions and management of these facilities.
Tripura is experiencing one of the worst natural calamities ever, as heavy rains and landslides continue to batter and bruise all eight districts of the state.
The situation remains dire, especially in South Tripura.
Tripura received one of the highest levels of rainfall on Thursday in South Tripura, Sepahijala, West Tripura and Gomati districts.
The situation is no different in Agartala as there is extensive flooding in the capital city. Schools, colleges and other institutes are shut for the third day today owing to severe waterlogging.
