Tripura CPI-M State Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury Calls BJP–Tipra Motha Rift Over Tiprasa Accord Row ‘Drama for Personal Gains’

Without naming anyone he claimed that such theatrics would continue until the personal interests are fulfilled

Amid the escalating political tensions between ruling allies BJP and Tipra Motha in Tripura over the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord and rising infiltration concerns, Opposition Leader and CPIM Tripura State secretary, who is also a CPIM politburo member, Jitendra Chaudhury today dismissed the developments as nothing more than a “drama” being staged for “personal gains.”

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a DYFI programme, Chaudhury strongly criticized the recent sequence of events including Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma’s threat to withdraw support from the BJP-led government, and the late-evening meeting between Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma and BJP MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb at Ujjayanta Palace on Saturday.

“From the very beginning, Tipra Motha has emerged dramatically, and every few hours they come up with another act. This is one more episode in their ongoing drama. It gets amplified from time to time, with new ingredients — and we all know what those ingredients are: personal gains,” said Chaudhury.

Without naming anyone he further claimed that such theatrics would continue until the personal interests are fulfilled, after which “they will stop this drama and start another.”

The comments come at a time when the alliance between BJP and Tipra Motha appears strained, with growing pressure from Tipra Motha over the delay in executing the terms of the Tripartite Agreement signed in March 2024 and the government’s inaction in tackling illegal infiltration issues raised again by Pradyot Debbarma during his recent meeting with the Governor.

While the BJP leadership has downplayed the threat, with CM Manik Saha stating he has received no formal communication and that talks are ongoing, the opposition has seized the opportunity to portray the entire episode as a pre-planned political performance.

With political dynamics in flux, the opposition is closely watching how long the BJP-Motha alliance holds and what new “episode” might unfold next.
