Justice served after 4 long years. The District and Sessions Court of Agartala on Saturday granted life imprisonment to four individuals convicted for murdering Bodhisatwa Das, a bank manager who was killed in the intervening night of August 3rd and 4th, 2019.
The prosecution was led by special public prosecutor Samrat Kar Bhowmik, who revealed that the convicted individuals, namely traffic inspector Sukanta Biswas, Sumit Chowdhury, Sumit Banik, and Omar Sharif alias Shoaib Mia, were charged under Section 302 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
Along with the life sentences, the court imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 each. Failure to pay the fine would result in an additional three months of rigorous imprisonment.
According to the prosecutor, it was proven that all the convicted individuals had a common intention to murder Bodhisatwa, who tragically succumbed to his injuries shortly after being taken to the hospital.
The court proceedings involved the testimony of 56 witnesses, although two individuals, Basu Kar, eyewitness of the incident and Dr. Abhijit Das from GBP Hospital’s trauma centre, turned hostile during the trial.
