Tripura has set a target of producing 815 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy, including 396 MW from solar, 400 MW from hydro-pumped storage, and clean energy by 2030.

The state plans to invest Rs 13,000 crore to achieve these goals.

Tripura’s Power Minister, Ratan Lal Nath, announced this target at the Fourth Global Renewable Energy Investors Meet and Expo in Gujarat, where he signed a commitment letter on behalf of the state.

Ratan Lal Nath assured organizers that Tripura would take effective steps to achieve this goal.”The traditional sources of energy, such as natural gas and coal, are gradually depleting. To meet the growing power demand sustainably, renewable energy is the only viable solution,” said the minister. He further added, “India has set a national target of generating 500 gigawatts of power from solar energy, and despite being a small state, Tripura is committed to contributing by generating 815 MW.”

To achieve this, the state’s power department has launched a multi-faceted approach. Of the total target, 396 MW will come from solar power, while hydro-pump storage technology will contribute 400 MW. Additionally, 15 MW will be generated through hydroelectric projects, and bio-energy will provide 2 MW. Combined, these efforts will help Tripura reach its goal of 815 MW by 2030.Minister Nath emphasized that achieving these objectives will require an investment of Rs 13,000 crore.

During the event, Tripura received the third prize among northeastern states for its efforts in solar energy management, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The minister also called on investors to explore opportunities in Tripura, highlighting the state’s improving infrastructure and connectivity.

He pointed out that Tripura has an industry-friendly government, a robust industrial policy, easy access to land, and a favorable investment environment with all the necessary facilities for energy sector investments. “Tripura has already developed its Energy Vision 2030, and a Renewable Energy Policy will soon be introduced,” Nath added.
