First Published: 12th September, 2024 13:39 IST

They have called for the government to address the needs of those affected by the violence and disruptions caused by insurgency in the region.

Within hours of Tripura Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman alleging that Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Debbarma of falling into BJP trap as he has been unable to implement the Tiprasa Accord even after 6 months of signing it, both the leaders met yesterday evening and discussed two critical issues affecting Tripura: the ongoing border fencing project with Bangladesh and the recent settlement agreement between the Government of India (GOI) and the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF).

The two leaders have emphasized the importance of fostering a peaceful environment for the progress and stability of the state.

They have also called for the government to address the needs of those affected by the violence and disruptions caused by insurgency in the region and suggested considering providing a financial package to support these people and families to help with their hardships.

Pradyot Debbarma stressed the importance of maintaining a focus on state and national interests above individual opinions in a democratic setup and said that all stakeholders should prioritize the welfare of their state and country.

He further said that he believes that ongoing dialogues and meetings should be conducted in a constructive and healthy manner.

Taking to X, Debbarma wrote, “Met Shri @SudipRoyBarman1
and discussed the border fencing issue with Bangladesh and also the NLFT/ATTF settlement signed by the GOI . We both agreed that peace is the way forward for the state of Tripura and also those affected by the violence due to the insurgency should also be considered some financial package from the concerned administration. I believe that in a democracy there can be different opinions but we should all have the interest of our state and country above all . Such dialogues and meeting should continue in a healthy way.”

It may be mentioned here that the two factions of the NLFT and the ATTF signed a tripartite agreement with the Centre and the Tripura Government on September 4.

This tripartite agreement aims to address long-standing issues in the region and foster peace and development.
