CM Manik Saha met the protesting candidates who are seeking jobs and have assured them that he will discuss the issue with the Education Minister today
In a big development and much to the relief of the protesting qualified Selection Test for Graduate Teachers (STGT), 2022 batch of Tripura, Chief Minister Manik Saha assured the protesting teachers on Saturday that he would discuss the matter of recruiting the qualified teachers with the education minister of the state as early as today.
Earlier in the day, the CM met a delegation of the STGT qualified teacher who were protesting outside the CM’s residence.
According to a RTI reply procured by the STGT qualified teachers, there are about 5,304 vacant graduate teachers post in various schools across the state. Therefore, the demand of the protesting qualified teachers is that the government should hire at least 1,500 qualified STGT candidates.
The protesting candidates had expressed satisfaction after their meeting with the CM and said that they now hopeful of a positive outcome regarding their demand.
The protesting SGTG qualified teachers said that during last more than three months they have been meeting various Ministers including the Deputy Chief Minister and Finance, Youth Affairs and Sports and the Education Minister regarding their demand but till now they have not received any response from the government.
The candidates said that they want the government to act fast with the hiring process as many of them would cross the government’s hiring age limit and would no longer be eligible if the process is not expedited. “Many of the aspirants are from very poor families and completed their education including BEd by selling their properties or taking education loans and are now under pressure,” one of the candidates said.
The candidates have been protesting for quite some time now. Earlier this month on December 12, a pregnant candidate was injured along with 40 others when the Education Minister had asked the police to chase the protesting candidates away and the police had resorted to lathi charge to disperse the protestors.
