Agartala Becomes First Smart City with Own Data Centre and OFC Network for ICCC

Tripura’s capital city, Agartala has become the first Smart City in India to establish its own data centre for the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC).
The state is expected to bring data-centric solutions to improve urban challenges and enhance municipal service delivery.
On Monday, Chief Secretary JK Sinha inaugurated the data centre at IT Bhavan, accompanied by Abhishek Singh, Secretary, Urban Development department and Shailesh Kumar Yadav, Chief Executive Officer of Agartala Smart City (ASC), and other officials.
Previously, the ICCC was hosted in the Department of Information Technology’s data centre.
During the inauguration, Yadav, who also serves as the Commissioner of Agartala Municipal Corporation, said to reporters that the new centre, equipped with servers and modern equipment, was established at a cost of approximately Rs 30 crores.
He added that the data centre is a critical hub, connected to all elements of Agartala Smart City. This includes CCTV cameras, traffic signals, LED display boards, and weather information boards, all linked through a 156 km long optical fibre network owned by the Agartala Smart City.
As per inputs, the new facility will significantly improve the management of city operations, handling exceptional scenarios, and disaster mitigation using advanced information and communication technologies. It also provides a decision support system aimed at enhancing the quality of life for Agartala’s residents.
With a primary storage capacity of 1 petabyte and an additional 1.9 petabytes of secondary storage, the data centre operates 24/7.
It maintains default storage of all data across Agartala for 30 days, playing a vital role in crime detection, live monitoring, surveillance, and controlling various electronic gadgets. This includes real-time data collection, centralized monitoring, flood control and warning, and informed decision-making, which are driving the city towards greater inclusion, efficiency, and innovation.
In addition to the data centre, Agartala smart city has also established its own optical fiber network, further enhancing its technological infrastructure and connectivity.
