2 Months After NDA’s LS 2024 Win, CPI (M), Cong Stages Walk Out from Tripura Assembly, Says Win “unethical”

The BJP did not win through the people's mandate but by rigging the election process, said Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhary
Opposition parties CPI (M) and Congress staged a walkout on the second day of the ongoing Monsoon session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly in protest against a Congratulatory Motion praising the BJP-led NDA government for its third consecutive victory in the 18th Lok Sabha elections under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
After the question hour, Speaker Biswabandhu Sen introduced the motion, commending the NDA government for its victory in the 18th Lok Sabha elections.
However, the mood quickly shifted when opposition MLAs rushed toward the well of the House, shouting slogans condemning both the state and central governments.
The scene became chaotic, with members of both sides exchanging slogans as the Speaker continued reading the motion.
The Opposition’s dissatisfaction culminated in a walkout as CPI(M) and Congress MLAs exited the Assembly in protest.
Speaking to reporters later, CPI(M) leader Jitendra Chaudhary, who is also the Leader of Opposition, explained their actions and accused the BJP of “massive rigging and booth capturing” in the election, claiming that the party’s victory was not a result of genuine public support but electoral manipulation.
“Today, this BJP-led government have proposed two congratulatory motions which is totally unethical and unusual. People of the country know very well how PM Narendra Modi has maintained to remain in power by dismantling the spirit of the constitution. The BJP did not win through the people’s mandate but by rigging the election process,” Chaudhary said, justifying their opposition to the motion,” said Chaudhary.
The opposition MLAs returned to the House later for the Reference Period Notices.
It may be mentioned here that the NDA secured 293 out of 543 Lok Sabha seats in the recent elections.
