2 From Uttar Pradesh Arrested With Cannabis Worth Approx Rs 4 Cr in North Tripura

The truck driver Awadhesh Kumar (42) and co-driver Pramod Kumar (59), both residents of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, have been arrested.

Continuing its crackdown on drug trafficking in the state, Tripura Police have seized dry cannabis worth approximately Rs 4 crore and arrested two individuals in connection with the case.

The Churaibari Police have seized the contraband during a routine checking operation on Monday afternoon.

Inspector Khokan Saha, Officer-in-Charge of Churaibari Police Station, said that a 6-wheeler truck heading from Agartala to Guwahati was intercepted at the Churaibari naka point around 2 PM. Suspicion arose when police noticed that nuts on several electronic transformers being transported appeared unusually loose.

Upon inspection, police recovered a 960 kilograms of dry cannabis packed in 96 bundles of 10 kg each, concealed inside 10 transformers.

The seized narcotics have an estimated black-market value of Rs 3.5 to Rs 4 crore.

The truck driver Awadhesh Kumar (42) and co-driver Pramod Kumar (59), both residents of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, have been arrested.

A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 has been registered, and further investigations are underway.
