The detainees had reportedly crossed into India illegally a day earlier through the Karbook or Shilachari border areas in Tripura’s Gomati district.
In a significant operation, 12 Bangladeshi nationals, including 4 men 4 women, and 4 children, were detained in Tripura’s Khowai district today.
They were detained at Teliamura Railway Station during a routine joint security check by BSF 104 (G) Company personnel and the General Railway Police (GRP).
The detainees, identified as residents of North Jaliyapara in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, had reportedly crossed into India illegally a day earlier through the Karbook or Shilachari border areas in Tripura’s Gomati district.
Among the arrested were Mohammad Siddique (60), Monora Begum (50), Abdul Aziz Ullah (22), Azizul Haque (25), Obaidul Ullah (19), Jamila Khatun (5), Khunshun (18), Kuhinur Akhtar (22), Sagarika Yasmin (20), Satarai Yasmin (6 months), Nuru Siddique (5), and Mohanti Yasmin (2).
According to Intu Marak, GRP officer-in-charge at Teliamura Railway Station, the infiltrators arrived at the station with the help of a Bangladeshi trafficker.
The group was planning to travel to Hyderabad or Delhi in search of employment. However, their guide fled the scene upon realizing that security personnel had detained the group during ticket checks.
The detainees are currently being interrogated by the BSF, GRP Police, and central intelligence agencies at Teliamura GRP Police Station. They will be produced before the court following the investigation.
Despite border fencing and vigilant patrolling, the Tripura-Bangladesh border remains a vulnerable entry point, calling for enhanced measures to strengthen border security and curb human trafficking.
