Sikkim Premier Badminton League likely to start from mid of September this year

The much anticipated state-level Sikkim Premier Badminton League (SPBL) is likely to start from mid of September at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok, Sikkim this year.
Sikkim Premier Badminton League is a franchise-based badminton tournament being held in collaboration with Badminton Association of Sikkim (BAS) sponsored by Sikkim Urja Limited.
The auction for the players of the league took place on Sunday where a total of 66 players, 11 players on each team were auctioned under 6 teams namely- Tathangchen Blockers, Sikkim Shuttlers, Buddha Acers, Blue Duke Sporting Club, Himalayan Shuttlers and Le Classic Acers.
Each team will have a minimum of 3 lady players.

This League not only promises to showcase badminton skills but also to symbolise the state’s commitment to nurturing a generation of shuttlers who are ready to embrace challenges and achieve greatness.
Jigmee Bhutia, Chairman, Sikkim Premier badminton league told Northeast Live that the organisation is trying to include both young and senior players, with a primary focus on the young players as they have a longer career ahead.
He added that they are also promoting the female players in the state.
The young and women category are open for all age groups while the veteran category is open for 40 + players.
Responding to how he sees the future of badminton in the state, Bhutia said,” Badminton association of Sikkim is one of the oldest sporting bodies and one of the most dynamic in Sikkim. With the present government’s initiative, we are having badminton club’s associations in each and every nook and corner of the state. We can say it’s one of the most popular games played in Sikkim after football.”
Riwaz Rai, the highest bidding player in the auction, expressing his happiness said that the league has provided a platform to the youngsters.
