In a big development Sikkim Health Minister MK Sharma has resigned from the cabinet today.

In his letter to Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, the health minister accused the Tamang government of inaction with regard to the Supreme Court’s observation making the Sikkimese Nepali community foreigner in their own land.
“In view of the honourable Supreme Court’s verdict, the State government has not taken the sentiments of the Sikkimese people seriously and I feel it is not necessary to remain in the state cabinet further”, the minister wrote in his resignation letter.
It may be mentioned that Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang yesterday had said that the state is ready to file a review petition regarding the issue before the Supreme Court.
Speaking to Northeast Live, Chief Minister Tamang had said that his government will be filing a review petition in the apex court in a bid to revoke the observation.
He added that he is in touch with the Centre for assistance in filing the review petition and welcomed the tax exemption for the Sikkimese Nepali community in the Supreme Court exemption.
Asked when the petition would be filed, the CM said, “We will do it (file review petition) within 2-3 days and we will engage the best of the lawyers. Our team including our additional advocate general is fully engaged in the process.”
