Sikkim CM takes stock of preparations for visit of Dalai Lama to state

Preparations made for 30,000 to 40,000 devotees to attend the event in Paljor stadium: CS

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang took stock of the ongoing preparations at Paljor Stadium today evening to ensure smooth preparations for the visit of Dalai Lama to the state.
The Chief Minister was briefed about the details of the venue by R Telang, Additional Chief Secretary, Home and Education Departments and senior officers of the State Government.
Speaking to Northeast Live, the Chief Secretary of Sikkim V.B Pathak said, “The Dalai Lama will visit the state of Sikkim from December 11 to 14. The main event of his visit will take place on December 12 at Paljor stadium where the Dalai Lama will preach about the 37 thirty seven practices of Bodhisattvas.On December 13 the Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has organised a feast in respect of Dalai Lama.”
He added that arrangements have been made for 30,000 to 40,000 devotees to attend the event. He said that LED screens will be put up all over the city for people who cannot attend the event in the stadium.
Earlier, on December 2, a meeting was convened by the Chief Secretary to review the security measures and preparedness of the state to receive the globally acclaimed spiritual leader.
It is to be mentioned that the Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama visit has been cancelled two times earlier, at first it was scheduled for October 10 to 14, which was postponed due to flash floods on October 3. Again it was rescheduled to October 16 to 22, but the visit faced another setback due to the devastation caused by floods resulting from a glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) at Lhonak Lake in the Chungthang area of North Sikkim.
