Tamang emphasized the necessity of active public involvement to curb the growing menace of drug and alcohol abuse

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang expressed grave concern over the alarming increase in drug and alcohol abuse in the state, calling for a collective effort from society to curb the menace.

Speaking at the launch of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, an anti-drug campaign organized by the Brahmakumaris in Sikkim, Tamang emphasized the necessity of active public involvement to curb the growing menace.

“Drug and alcohol abuse is a growing concern in Sikkim, and combating this issue requires the active participation of our society,” said Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to addressing the issue, revealing that a dedicated mission has been initiated to combat substance abuse. He emphasized that it is impossible to overcome this challenge solely through governmental efforts and urged every member of the community to contribute by reporting drug-related activities.

“Our state government is fully committed to addressing this challenge, and we have already launched a dedicated mission to tackle this pressing problem.”, he said.

He added, “Community involvement is crucial. Without collective action, we cannot overcome the challenges of substance abuse. I urge everyone to report drug peddlers, and those who provide information should be recognized and appreciated for their contributions.”

Expressing further concern, Tamang also highlighted the gravity of the situation, pointing out that substance abuse affects people from all walks of life, including government employees. He called on the public to support the fight against this issue by recognizing and valuing the efforts of those who report drug peddlers, encouraging an atmosphere of cooperation and vigilance.

Tamang stated, “The issue of substance abuse is not confined to any single group. Unfortunately, even some of our government employees have fallen victim to drug and alcohol addiction.”

The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan aims to promote a drug-free society and is part of the larger nationwide campaign to eradicate substance abuse across India.
