The students have been debarred after a high-powered committee found them guilty of cheating during the Preliminary Exams

As many as eight students have been restricted from appearing in the Mains examination of the Sikkim Services (Combined Recruitment) to be conducted by the Sikkim Public Service Commission (SPSC).

These students have been prohibited from taking the Mains examination after they were found indulging in malpractices during the Sikkim Services (Combined Recruitment) Prelim Examination 2022 conducted on January 16, this year, said Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang during the assembly session today.

The decision was taken based on the report submitted by the 5-member high-powered committee headed by Additional chief secretary (Education) R Telang that was set up to enquire into the allegations levelled by certain candidates about alleged cheating and lapses while conducting the Prelims examination. Chief Minister Tamang however, did not disclose the names of those eight students.

It may be mentioned that the candidates who had appeared for the Sikkim Services (Combined Recruitment) Prelim Exams 2022 alleged rampant cheating and extensive violation of examination rules at several centres across the state where the exams were held.

There were about 8,000 aspirants who sat for the exam. The exams were held to fill 18 Under Secretary positions, 14 positions of DSP, and 30 positions of Accounts Officer.
