CM Tamang termed Bhutia as a loser who has only faced defeats so far in elections, despite trying his luck from West Bengal and Sikkim
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang today lashed out at SDF leader Bhaichung Bhutia over the latter’s fake voter allegations. With political temperature soaring ahead of the assembly elections, CM Tamang termed Bhutia as a loser who has only faced defeats so far in elections, despite trying his luck from West Bengal as well as Sikkim.
Without mincing words, Chief Minister Tamang, in his first ever response to Bhutia’s allegations said that the footballer-turned-politician is himself involved in bringing fake voters for making political gains.
Asked about Bhaichung’s allegations that the government has included fake voters in the electoral roll, the Sikkim Chief Minister said, “Bhaichung Bhutia himself might have created it (fake voters list), we never created such things. He has prepared it, so he knows about that. Whoever has the right to vote, whoever has attained age of 18 years, they will naturally get the voting rights. Look at the figures presented by him (Bhaichung Bhutia), every year the population is increasing, the young voters are included in the voters list, so definitely it will increase. But since Bhaichung Bhutia is speaking about illegal voters, it seems that he has brought them here, so he is saying about that.”
Not only this, the Sikkim Chief Minister also termed Bhaichung as a loser, when asked if any legal action would be initiated against the SDF leader.
CM Prem Singh Tamang said, “What legal action shall we take? The one who has nothing, what can be done with him? He contested elections several times from Siliguri in West Bengal, but was defeated. Then he went to Darjeeling to contest elections, even there he lost. In fact in Sikkim too, he has lost many times. In 2019 he fought the Assembly Elections but had to face, he also fought the by-election from Gangtok, but he lost there too. So what can we tell about a loser.”
CM Tamang said that he regards Bhaichung as football icon for which his government decided to complete the Bhaichung Stadium left incomplete by the previous government. We are not doing politics in his name.
Speaking about the party preparedness in view of the impending Assembly Elections, Tamang exuded confidence of a good show and said that his party is ready to face the poll battle.
He said, “We are fully prepared, because we have our own organization everywhere. We are having party meetings everywhere. If elections are happening tomorrow, than too we are ready.
Bhaichung Bhutia had accused Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and his party Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) of bringing in fake voters from outside the state during the 2019 elections.
He alleged that the SKM party is hiring voters from outside Sikkim this time as well and the number of voters has increased by 28,000.
