Ahead of Sikkim Assembly polls, JAC elects new office bearers

Ahead of the Sikkim Assembly elections early next year, a new committee of the Joint Action Council (JAC), a pressure group set up following the Supreme Court’s order regarding Sikkimese-Nepali identity, was elected today at a special meeting of the committee held at Gangtok.
The meeting was attended by representatives of various associations and individuals where they unanimously resolved to have a new executive structure to be headed by a council of 5 conveners and other executive members.
The conveners of the new executive council are Ranjana Gurung, I.K Chettri, Deepak Tewari, Sangay Gyatso Bhutia and Santosh Gautam. The new set up of JAC will also have two General Secretaries in Dilu Sharma and Samso Subba. Raj Pradhan and Jyoti Chettri have been appointed as treasurers.

District councils for each district would also be formed. Jorgay Namkha, a senior advocate, was inducted as the legal advisor to JAC.
The meeting started with a welcome address by the outgoing President Keshav Sapkota where he recalled the setting up of the organisation and analysed the efforts made for securing the safety, security and all round progress of Sikkim and its people.
The new committee held its first meeting after its inception where the members appreciated the efforts of the outgoing committee and vowed to work tirelessly for the betterment of the state.
