Despite being one of the oldest colleges in Nagaland with good student enrollment, the students stated that the college has been facing shortages of teaching and non-teaching staff
The Sao Chang College (SCC), Tuensang in Nagaland, wore a deserted look after the Chang Wedoshi Setshang (Chang Students’ Conference) began its first phase of agitation today by shutting down the Sao Chang College until its ‘Charter of Demands’ are fulfilled.
In a notification issued to the Deputy Commissioner Tuensang, the Chang Wedoshi Setshang informed that the Department of Higher Education (DHE) has invited the Conference for a consultative meeting regarding its various demands on October 11, but the DHE failed to give “any assurance or solicit our views regarding the concerned matter.”
Subsequently, the CWS decided to shut down the college on October 12 as part of its first phase of agitation until the said demands were fulfilled.
On September 9, the Sao Chang College Students’ Union (SCCSU) submitted a charter of demands that included the deployment of a principal, stating that the college has been functioning without a principal for a couple of years, creating untold hardships in the functioning of the college.
Highlighting that 70% of the 668 students miss their classes every day due to the outdated buses, the Sao Chang College Students’ Union (SCCSU) demanded new college buses.
The Union claimed that some students missed the recently held internal exam due to the unavailability of college buses.
Further, the Sao Chang College Students’ Union (SCCSU) also said that the break-fail incidents have traumatized the students, who now fear traveling in those buses.
Despite being one of the oldest colleges in Nagaland with good student enrollment, the students stated that the college has been facing shortages of teaching and non-teaching staff.
The students also demanded an upgrade of the science laboratory.
