NSCN-IM’s Threat to Pick Up Arms Is Too Much: Former Nagaland CM Liezietsu

Liezietsu said, “Government of India is not serious towards settlement of the Naga issue and if there are hindrances as such, it should be sorted out.”
Veteran politician and former Chief Minister of Nagaland Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu on Wednesday said that the threat by National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah) (NSCN-IM) to return to its armed resistance is “too much”.
While speaking to Northeast Live, Liezietsu said, “As far as the threat given by them to go back to the jungle, I feel it is too much for all of us to think about it at this moment. For our national workers too, it is doubtful whether they will go back to the jungle after living a comfortable life, they shouldn’t think of going back to the jungle but they should look forward and it is the Naga people, the public who should speak so that a settlement can be arrived at as early as possible.”
Furthermore, he also accused the Government of India of being indifferent and insincere in resolving the decades old Naga Political issue.
Liezietsu said, “Government of India is not serious towards settlement of the Naga issue and if there are hindrances as such, it should be sorted out.”
“NSCN-IM and the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) have already signed the Framework Agreement and the agreed position now it all depends on the Indian government when to sign. Indian government should be sincere,” he added.
Liezietsu also expressed his concerns about the state economy and said, “Nagas cannot continue to live like this. Our economy is almost dying. One side it is the mistake of the government and on the other side it’s the taxes imposed by many different factions, Nagas cannot survive under this condition.”
On the appointment of a new interlocutor requested by the Political Affairs Committee, he said, “appointment of a new interlocutor makes no difference, it all depends on the intention of the central government. Interlocutor is only a spokesperson.”
