Vyasan R highlighted the importance of activating security coordination committees within the districts, stressing that the DCs should convene meetings to assess and mitigate any threats
Nagaland’s Home Commissioner, Vyasan R, has issued a state-wide alert to district authorities in light of the ongoing political crisis in Bangladesh, which may result in an influx of illegal immigrants into the state.
During a press briefing after the video conference with all the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of Nagaland districts to discuss the situation and ensure preparedness, Vyasan R emphasized the need for district administrations, police, and the state government to stay vigilant and proactive in addressing the potential challenges.
Vyasan R highlighted the importance of activating security coordination committees within the districts, stressing that the DCs should convene meetings to assess and mitigate any threats.
“We should remain alert and alive to the situation so that it shouldn’t be the case that the administration, police and the entire state is taken by surprise,” he stated as per reports by Nagaland Post.
Additionally, he underscored the need for reinforcing the Inner Line Permit (ILP) checks across the state, especially in districts where ILP is not fully implemented.
The Commissioner also urged DCs to engage village councils and maintain open communication channels to report any unusual activities or movements in their areas. Immediate reporting of such incidents would enable swift action from the authorities.
In a bid to strengthen border security, Vyasan R suggested that cross-border meetings with Assam officials be initiated. Given that most illegal movements are likely to originate from Assam, these meetings would serve as an early warning system for Nagaland.
As per reports, some districts, even before the official directive, had already reactivated their security coordination efforts, conducting surprise checks in various locations. The Commissioner specifically mentioned that DCs in Dimapur, Niuland, and Chumukedima should ensure similar measures, particularly due to their proximity to the railway network.
At present, no unusual activities have been reported, and the state is awaiting further inputs. The Commissioner reiterated the need for continued vigilance to prevent any surprises from the ongoing situation in Bangladesh.
