Will have to participate in the elections if the dates are announced, even if there is no solution, the CM said
In what can be termed as a big development, all the 60-MLAs of Nagaland have decided to abstain from campaigning for the upcoming Assembly elections early next year. The decision was taken after a crucial meeting held today, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said.
Speaking to Northeast Live, Chief Minister Rio said that he has also conveyed to the Naga groups not to blame the 60-MLAs if there is no solution to the vexed Naga issue. According to Rio it will be wrong to blame the legislators since they have been negotiating and are active facilitators pertaining to the issue.
The Nagaland Chief Minister further added that the state will have to participate in the elections if the dates are announced, even if there is no solution.
When asked about if there was any update on the Naga issue, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said that the people (Naga political groups) in talks with the Centre have already returned from Delhi. Rio said,”So before Christmas nothing may happen, because talk will resume only after that”.
In a recent statement the NSCN-IM had once again reiterated that separate flag and constitution are constituent parts of sovereignty and there should be no ambiguity about it. In a fresh statement released last week which is being seen as an interpretation of the historic Framework Agreement, the NSCN-IM said that the Framework Agreement says that the Government of India recognises the unique history and position of the Nagas.
The NSCN-IM claimed that by unique history, it means that the Nagas have the history of independence and that the Nagas have never been a part of the Union of India nor that of Burma or Myanmar.
The NSCN-IM statement also stated that the unique position in FA means that the position and situation of quote unquote Nagalim is political and not a law and order problem of India.
