Awangbow Newmai said that the BJP might field a candidate from the Outer Manipur seat but a final call will be taken only after discussions between both the parties.
With less than a month to go for the Lok Sabha elections, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) has gone into full election mode and stepped up its poll related activities in the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha seat.
Retired IRS Officer K.T. Zimik will be in the fray for the NPF from the Outer Manipur seat.
As election date are closing in, the NPF which is an alliance partner of the BJP in Manipur is reaching out to the people on the basis of development agenda, efforts to bring peace as well as the commitment to fight against corruption.
At the foremost, the NPF has affirmed support to it’s big brother in the alliance-BJP ahead of the parliamentary elections. Manipur NPF president and a minister in the N Biren Singh cabinet Awangbow Newmai said that his is a part and parcel of the alliance.
However, Newmai said that the BJP also might field a candidate from the Outer Manipur seat, but whatsoever the matter will be discussed between both the parties before any decision is made.
The Manipur NPF president said, “We are the alliance party of the BJP, we are part and parcel of the alliance, member of NDA. In the past in the LS polls as well as MLA election, we had a very cordial and friendly fight. This time around also we will be supporting the BJP candidate in the Inner Manipur seat.
And we may also have some understanding with the BJP but this is yet to be worked out, they may also put up their candidate, but as to how to go about together, we will discuss with the concerned authority of the BJP.”
Asked as to how the NPF is preparing itself to fight the election, Awangbow Newmai said, “We will go to the people, we will share our opinions with them and seek their support. We have constituted Management Committee and this committee will work out on how to go about electioneering. but as of now after the ticket is handed over to the candidate, we will concentrate on nomination filing as well as meeting the people immediately. We will go to the people with the message of peace.”
In a significant and a clear message the NPF leadership in Manipur has maintained that the party is totally against the use of money power in the elections.
Backing his party’s stand, Awangbow Newmai said, “NPF always fights against corruption, bribing the voters is corruption. We will continue fight against corruption. We will not depend on money, we do not subscribe to this kind of electioneering. We do not subscribe to winning votes through money. We are against it.”
Newmai also responded to a query by Northeast Live, as to why the people should choose NPF over others. In his response, Manipur NPF president Awangbow Newmai said, “”I would like to appeal the voter of the Outer Manipur parliamentary seat to extend support to us for peace and prosperity in the state. This is our earnest appeal to our voters that we will fight this election for peace and that we will work for the welfare of the people. We will always stand for the people especially the weaker section. we believe in equality, economic equality, political and social equality. We will do our best on this.”
The NPF’s Central Working Committee (WC) on Wednesday had approved the name of Kachui Timothy Zimik as the NPF official candidate for II-Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
