Kikon expressed support for the Political Affairs Committee's resolution, advocating for a ministerial-level interlocutor to facilitate the discussions.
Naga People’s Front (NPF) Secretary General and MLA Achumbemo Kikon has welcomed the resumption of talks regarding the Naga political issue that began on October 9 in New Delhi but cautioned that expecting an overnight resolution would be unrealistic.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Kikon acknowledged the importance of the renewed dialogue between the Government of India and the NSCN-IM, emphasizing the complexity of the Naga political situation, which requires thorough and thoughtful solutions.
“I am happy about the resumption of political talks between the Government of India and the NSCN-IM. It is very encouraging. As far as Naga political issues is concerned, it is distinct from demands arising in neighboring countries or other regions of India. This is one of the longest-running political issues, therefore you cannot expect a solution overnight. Therefore all these issues have to be discussed threadbare,” said Kikon.
Regarding the role of an interlocutor, Kikon expressed support for the Political Affairs Committee’s resolution, advocating for a ministerial-level interlocutor to facilitate the discussions.
“When it is a political issue, it (interlocutor) has to be someone who has political knowledge. A political figure should be engaged to handle to negotiate with the stakeholders,” he added.
Kikon also talked of the three principles that were laid down when the talks began.
These three principles were that talks would be held unconditionally, talks would be held at the highest level and that talks would be held in a third country.
