MNF members in the CADC have elected Rashik Mohan Chakma as the leader of the Legislature Party. Will crisis deepen in CADC?
MNF members in the Chakma Autonomous District Council have elected Rashik Mohan Chakma as their legislature party leader in the House.
The ruling MNF members also proposed Rashik Mohan Chakma’s name as the new Chief Executive Member of the Chakma Autonomous District Council.
The development comes after fifth CEM Buddha Lila Chakma resigned on Thursday hours before a floor test.
If the Governor approves Chakma’s election, than the latter would be the sixth CEM in the current term (2018-2023) and his third stint as CEM in the same term.
Instability in the CADC government had begun a few months after the elections to the CADC in April, 2018.
However, results showed a hung council and the BJP, which won five seats decided to form the government with Congress which bagged seven seats.
In a surprising move the BJP had decided to go with the Grand Old Party, rather than its NDA ally MNF having 8 MDCs.
