Mizoram Polls 2023: Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) confident of winning 30+ seats

The ZPM leadership is confident that the party will form government on it's own.

Who will form the next government in Mizoram? Will MNF retain power or the ZPM will create history? As of now both the parties are pretty confident of a good show and claim that they would be forming the government on their own.

A day after Mizoram Chief Minister and MNF chief Zoramthanga in an exclusive conversation with Northeast Live had said that his party would come back to power, the ZPM today exuded confidence of winning over 30 seats out of the total 40 seats up for grabs.

Speaking to Northeast Live, ZPM general secretary Eddy Zosangliana Colney is very confident about this and forming the next government.

Colney said, “I think we will win over 30 seats. We will be forming the government on our own. We will win more than 30 seats.”

But what gives the ZPM so much confidence? Well, according to the Opposition party, the MNF has suffered a massive setback due to internal strife. According to Eddy Zosangliana Colney this will make an impact and expects that things would go in favour of the ZPM.

Colney said, “MNF has no winning chance in the 11 seats of Aizawl district. MNF has been gripped with internal conflict. There 2 incumbent MLAs who are ministers were compelled to relocate to new constituencies. As well as the party vice-president Pu Vanlalzawma and Home Minister Lalchamliana not to contest clearly signal a decline within the party. Moreover, the departure of a minister and the Assembly Speaker from the party underscores their internal strife.”

On Friday, CM Zoramthanga had said in an interview with Northeast Live that the ZPM would be a factor for the MNF in the ensuing elections, while he ruled out any such impact from the Congress or the BJP.
Not only this, the ZPM leader also made a sharp attack on the MNF for failing to fulfil a pre-poll promise of giving each family in Mizoram a grant of Rs 3 lakh for a sustainable livelihood. However, Colney alleged that only a few selected families have been benefitted so far by the Socio Economic Development Program (SEDP).

The ZPM general secretary stated, ” MNF President Zormathanga said in 2017, he declared that if the MNF secures victory in 2018 election, then the MNF government would implement an economic initiative aimed at ensuring that each family attain sustainable livelihood with an annual income of Rs 3 lakh. But the question arise has even the families received the promise of Rs 3 lakh, then the answer is resounding no. Instead only a meagre Rs 25,000 was transferred to a few selected families. It was given to only 60,000 families.”
