According to ZORO, the Zo Indigenous ID is a response to the recognition of indigenous rights under the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples of 2007.

The Zo Indigenous ID, created by the Zo Reunification Organisation (ZORO), was officially launched today by Mizoram Legislative Assembly Speaker Lalbiakzama in his office.

The move is a significant step toward protecting the rights of the Zo community, including self-determination, governance, and participation in decisions affecting their lives.

According to ZORO, the Zo Indigenous ID is a response to the recognition of indigenous rights under the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples of 2007.

The ID will serve as an important tool for the Zo community, enabling easier access to cross-border areas in India, Myanmar, and Bangladesh, while asserting their shared cultural and ancestral identity.

The Zo Indigenous ID also aims to formally recognize the Zo community as an Indigenous Peoples Organisation under the United Nations.

The ZORO will next notify the United Nations about the creation of the Zo Indigenous ID and will also inform the governments of India, Myanmar, and Bangladesh, with a special focus on state governments in Mizoram, Manipur, and Assam.
