Mizoram: 2 Female Paragliders, Gliders from South Korea, Indonesia, Spain Participate in Paragliding Championship

David Contreras from Spain, Aman Thapa from Nepal, and Dongsul Kim from South Korea are the top contenders so far
Thirty paragliding enthusiasts, including two women paragliding pilots and paragliders from South Korea, Nepal, Kazakhstan, and Indonesia, are taking part in the International Paragliding Championship 2024 that began on Monday in Serchhip, Mizoram. The event, which go on till tomorrow. It is being held at the scenic Zawlpui landing site.
Among the 30 paragliders who are competing in the championship, 17 are from India, including 8 from Mizoram. There are five paragliders from South Korea, three from Indonesia, three from Nepal, and one each from Spain and Kazakhstan. The championship is an FAI Category-II event, and the points awarded will contribute to the World Pilot Ranking System (WPRS).
So far, five rounds of the competition have been completed, with top contenders including David Contreras from Spain, Aman Thapa from Nepal, and Dongsul Kim from South Korea. Few of the remaining seven rounds took place today. Rest of the rounds will take place tomorrow.
In addition to the aerial competition, the International Paragliding Championship and Air Sports Festival features cultural stalls at Zawlpui, highlighting the region’s unique attractions. A Fish Angling Event is also underway, adding to the festive atmosphere. After the championship concludes, visitors will have the opportunity to experience tandem paragliding flights.
The excitement is expected to continue building as the championship moves toward its thrilling conclusion later this week.
