Rasik Mohan Chakma and the MDCs were supposed to join the ZPM on Wednesday
Within days of quitting from the Mizo National Front (MNF), Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) CEM Rasik Mohan Chakma and 14 other MDCs in a sudden turnaround have decided to stay back and not to leave the ruling party.
Chakma and the MDCs were supposed to join the Zoram Peoples Movement (ZPM) on Wednesday.
The new development is very significant, especially in the context of the impending assembly elections in the state. Initially, when Chakma and the MDCs had quit the MNF, the development was seen as something which could have impacted the ruling party’s prospects in the assembly elections.
Everything became clear when Chief Minister and top MNF leader Zoramthanga shared in a post on X and confirmed about the development. In his post, Zoramthanga said, “Thank you Pu Rasik Mohan Chakma & all concerned MDCs of CADCs for your heroic decision in pledging/renewing your allegiance with the Mizo National Front Party with noble reasons.
We, the Members of MNF Party welcomes you and wishes the best for your future endeavour.”
Mizoram Tourism Minister Robert Romawia Royte also shared a post on X and said, “Another big mileage for MNF Party.”
As per inputs, Rasik Mohan Chakma was unhappy and had decided to join ZPM, after he was denied a party ticket by the MNF high command for contesting the Assembly elections.
Instead of Rasik, the MNF has reportedly decided to field Durjya Dhan Chakma from Tuichawng assembly constituency where RM Chakma had won earlier. But what prompted Rasik Mohan Chakma to change his mind will be clear soon when the MNF announces its list of candidates for the assembly elections.
Considering the sudden turn around by Chakma and his loyalists (the MDCs), it seems that the CADC Chairman will be given a ticket to fight the polls.
