Boost to cancer treatment: Mizoram CM lays base for Mizoram State Super Specialty Cancer & Research Centre

Mizoram is one of the states in the nation where the prevalence of cancer is very high

Mizoram, where the prevalence of cancer is considered to be one of the highest among other states of the country will soon have a state of the art facility to treat the disease.

Expected to be completed by 2028, Chief Minister Zoramthanga laid the foundation for the Mizoram State Super Specialty Cancer & Research Centre to augment cancer treatment in the state as well as the region.

The Centre is being constructed at the Mizoram State Cancer Institute Complex, Zemabawk in Aizawl.

Taking to X, Zoramthanga said, ” This is a remarkable milestone for the health infrastructure development in Mizoram, and I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Govt. of Japan and JICA for their great contributions.
• I believe that since Mizoram suffers a lot from cancer and its related diseases, this new Super Specialty & Research Center will surely help fight life threatening complications.
• The total project cost is ₹ 700 Crore out of which 80% shall be funded by JICA and the remaining 20% by the GoM.
• The project shall include 200 bedded hospital, latest equipments with expert doctors and researchers in the field of cancer and its related diseases.
• The project is expected to be completed by 2028.

Besides, the Mizoram Chief Minister also appealed people to follow a healthy daily lifestyle and stop consuming tobacco in any form to prevent cancer and other terminal diseases.

Six states, which represent 18 per cent of India’s population, have 23 per cent share of the country’s reported incidence burden and have the highest crude incidence rates.

Kerala, Mizoram, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Punjab, and Assam report the highest overall crude incidence rates of cancers which is greater than 130 cases per lakh population (2022), a report “Call for Action: Making quality cancer care more accessible and affordable in India” after a study by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) and Ernst and Young (E&Y) said.
