The school, which charges a nominal admission fee of Rs 370, has been a lifeline for many families struggling financially

The future of over 300 students studying in Class LKG to Class 8 is at stake. The ongoing relocation of Assam Rifles, expected to be completed by April 2025, has raised significant concerns, particularly regarding its impact on the Assam Rifles Middle School, which has over 300 students from LKG to Class 8. The school, which charges a nominal admission fee of Rs 370, has been a lifeline for many families struggling financially. Its spacious campus, located in the heart of Aizawl city within the Assam Rifles premises is a valuable resource that many schools in the city lack.

The school’s facilities include classrooms that are equipped with smart TVs for the lower classes, mid-day meals to students and regular medical check-ups, offered through the Assam Rifles, further supporting the well-being of the children.

However, with the Assam Rifles relocating to Zokhawsang, the future of the school is uncertain. The new location will be difficult for students to commute to daily, raising concerns that the school may be forced to close. This would severely affect the families who rely on the institution for affordable and quality education.

These concerns were raised by one of the parents, Ramhmingliani during the Flagging Off Ceremony for the National Integration Tour (NIT) of Class VII and Class VIII students from Assam Rifles Middle School, Aizawl, today. The tour, which will take students to Shillong and Guwahati, aims to broaden their learning and foster national integration.
However, the school’s potential closer casts a shadow over the educational opportunities for its students, who depend on it for both academic and socio-economic support.
