He encouraged all the parties to give their best in the upcoming elections and let the people decide who they want.
NPP leader and Meghalaya Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma wished luck to Congress leader Saleng Sangma after he was picked by the party as the candidate for the Tura Lok Sabha seat but at the same time said that Saleng Sangma has a ‘very high hill to climb’ hinting at the tall task ahead of him.
Speaking to media, Sangma said, “I wish him all the best but it is a very huge hill he has to climb. Of course every candidate is important in an election so lets not ignore anybody.”
He further added that the people of Meghalaya are lucky to have the NPP party as the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has brought the Central Government closer to the people of the state.
“We need people who has to connect with the people of the state as well as with the government at the centre. In this regard Meghalaya is blessed to have NPP as Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has brought Delhi closer.”
He added that earlier it was difficult to meet the Prime Minister or the Home Minister but nowadays they are just a phone call away.
When asked about the fact that Saleng Sangma has never lost an election and if it would hamper NPP’s Agatha Sangma’s prospects in the region, the minister said, “Maybe in 2024 Saleng will taste his first defeat in MP elections. Maybe history will be made.”
He further encouraged all the parties to give their best in the upcoming elections and let the people decide who they want.
It may be mentioned that the Meghalaya Congress Screening Committee has cleared the names of Saleng Sangma and Vincent H. Pala for the Tura and Shillong parliamentary seats respectively on Monday. This was decided at a meeting held under the leadership of Congress Screening Committee Chairman Rana KP Singh at Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati.
