Meghalaya: Will make sure that GNLA regrouping does not happen, affirms DY CM Prestone Tynsong

Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong today allayed apprehensions over reports doing the rounds that the proscribed GNLA is regrouping.

Asked as to how prepared is the state government to deal with any kind of eventuality, the deputy chief minister maintained that the police is very proactive and is ready to go to any extent if the situation demands.

Responding to reports of the regrouping as claimed in a press release that went viral on social media, Tynsong said, “Well that is not a new thing. I think even last year it has come out like that where few section of the media they said that the GNLA is regrouping. But let me tell you one thing, last year also we verified, but there was no such thing. Even now if they are (regrouping), our police and forces is ready to eventually go to any extent.

My assurance to the public and citizens of the state is that the police is proactive and will make sure that regrouping does not at all happen.

Let me reiterate, the police force is very much proactive and we will make sure that the regrouping does not happen again. 24X7 the police is always ready and we are proactive to any such, be it the news or be it the intention of may be few group of people or may be some young boys who wanted to have the luxury of having a new group.”

The Meghalaya deputy chief minister also stated that the intelligence structure has been strengthened and that the government will not allow such activities at any cost.

Regarding this, Prestone Tynsong said, “But we are alert and we will not at all sleep and will make sure that such regrouping does not happen.

The police is on the ground and our intelligence is fully strengthened, so please leave it to us. But let me assure you as I said that regrouping will not be allowed to happen again, we are not going to allow that.”
To ascertain wherther the claims as stated in the press are true or not, the Meghalaya Police has already swung into action.

A post on social media claiming the regrouping of the militant outfit has created a buzz in the western part of Meghalaya. The release was signed by one Goera Pantora Sangma, the self-proclaimed chairman of the GNLA – Regroup, the new nomenclature of the group.
