Meghalaya: Heroin worth Rs 4.8 crore recovered

Crackdown on drugs has intensified in Meghalaya. As part of it’s efforts to curb the drug menace, the Meghalaya police busted an inter-state drugs trafficking racket at Ri-Bhoi.

Acting on specific inputs, the police intercepted a vehicle ML-05S-9485 and upon frisking recovered 74 boxes of heroin. The value of the heroin in the international market is estimated to be about Rs 4.8 crore.

1 drug peddler from Manipur who was driving the vehicle has been arrested.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has lauded the Meghalaya Police as well as DGP LR Bishnoi for continuing with the tirade against drugs.

On September24, the Meghalaya Police had said that drugs worth over Rs 18 crore have been seized and 134 traffickers arrested since May till August this year.

As per available inputs, drug trafficking is taking place mostly in 8 out of the 12 districts of the state. The districts where drug trafficking is taking place are East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills, East Jaintia, West Jaintia Hills, Ri Bhoi, West Garo Hills and South Garo Hills.
