Meghalaya: Dy CM Sniawbhalang Dhar Slaps Rs 100 Cr Defamation Notice on Meghalaya Cong President Vincent Pala

First Published: 5th September, 2024 20:01 IST

Pala has been asked to issue an irrevocable public apology to Dhar for making misleading and politically motivated statements against Dhar.

Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar has served a Rs 100 crore defamation notice to Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee president and former Shillong Lok Saba MP Vincent Pala accusing Pala of making false, misleading and politically motivated statements against him.

The legal notice states that Pala in a press conference on August 24, 2024 made false and defamatory statements about Dy CM Sniawbhalang Dhar accusing him of being an RSS spokesperson, who allegedly acts at the behest of the BJP to shield his illegal businesses, is nothing but a frivolous, baseless and politically motivated charge to malign the image of Deputy CM Sniawbhalang Dhar.

The legal notice said that Pala has said, “Sniawbhalang Dhar is the spokesperson of the RSS. The RSS or the BJP wherever they are, their voice is ‘Congress-mukt Bharat’, or INDIA-mukt Bharat’. So Dhar has to voice it; otherwise, they know … all illegalities from drugs, coal to anything, all done by Dhar and company. I was an MP, I know they (the CBI) used to come to me ask for feedback, intelligence. All the files are in their table. A time will come when we will see that who is Sniawbhalang Dhar. History will tell who is Vincent Pala, who is Sniawbhalang Dhar. You have seen many of these people are in jail, be it Kejriwal be it anybody, any Chief Minister, any ex-Chief Minister, any Ministers. The records, when they (come out), they will one day land in a problem. Today, they (Sniawbhalang Dhar) have to speak the voice of the BJP otherwise they will be finished by the BJP. So … the voice of Sniawbhalang Dhar is one hundred percent the voice of the BJP the voice of the RSS. The people of Meghalaya should know who is he. He has been exposed by his statement, he has been used by the BJP, he has been used by the RSS.”

It asked Pala to provide an undertaking in writing that he will not repeat similar allegations, pay damages amounting to Rs. 100 crore for defaming Dhar.

The legal notice also demanded an unconditional apology from Pala, besides withdrawal of his remarks within 7 days, failing which appropriate legal proceedings will be initiated in civil courts.

It said that Pala’s statements have severely harmed Dhar’s reputation and asked him to issue an irrevocable public apology to Dhar.

The legal notice added that Pala’s remarks have cast aspersions on Dhar’s integrity and character.
