Despite the war of words, accusations and counter-accusations and lot of mud-slinging between BJP and NPP ahead of the elections in Meghalaya, BJP’s National Vice-President and party’s Meghalaya in-charge M Chuba Ao on Friday has not ruled out another round of alliance with NPP in the state.
Stating that everything is possible in politics, Ao said that they have to fight and win the elections by alleging each other. “But once we win everything is forgotten,” BJP national vice president said while speaking to reporters.
When asked if they are going to work with the TMC if the BJP-NPP combination fails to win maximum seats after the polls, he said that it is too early to discuss this, it will be discussed when time comes.
He further said that the best formula will be worked out once the results are declared. According to him, the party believes in “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas”.
Ao reiterated that in smaller states, the regional parties will need the BJP since running a state is very difficult as they have to heavily depend on the Centre for almost everything. According to him, they will need the BJP’s help when they are in power and without the party they cannot go to Delhi.
“It is for this reason we are saying that without the BJP they cannot form the government,” BJP national vice president said.
On the candidates’ list for the upcoming polls, BJP state president, Ernest Mawrie informed that the party will release its candidates list before February 2.
Talking to reporters after the State Election Committee meeting, Mawrie said that they have already prepared the list and it will be immediately sent to Delhi.
According to him, the Central Parliamentary Committee will meet on January 31 to take a final call of the party candidates for upcoming Assembly polls.
The BJP state president said that they will urge the party Central leadership to release the names of the party candidates at the earliest.
Mawrie further said that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi will be among the 20 star campaigners of the party for the upcoming Assembly polls in the State.
The Prime Minister will be addressing the election rallies in Shillong, Jowai and Tura. The PM is scheduled to visit the state after February 10.
Other party leaders who will be campaigning for the party include Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh among others.
