Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today allayed apprehensions and said that his government will ensure necessary action so that the law and order situation remains intact especially in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections.
Responding to the incident in Mawlai, where 1 labourer died and 2 sustained injuries after they were assaulted at a construction site by some unidentified miscreants, CM Conrad Sangma said that the perpetrators will be apprehended soon.
CM Sangma said that if need arises the government will seek deployment of more central forces. Briefing newspersons, CM Sangma said, “Yesterday an incident took place and police is probing the matter. I want to tell everyone that whoever is behind this we will take necessary action as per the law. The law is equal for everyone, so there is no doubt, we will apprehend those who are behind this incident.
I spoke to the family members of the deceased, I expressed my grief and assured them all possible assistance from my side. I also sent the SP to the hospital to enquire about the health of the others injured in the incident.”
Sharing details about the action plan to maintain law and order, CM Sangma said that a high-level meeting with the DGP and the Chief Secretary is expected by this evening or by tomorrow morning.
He also spoke about the deployment of additional forces.
“A meeting will be held with the DGP and the Chief Secretary by this evening or tomorrow morning. We have made full preparations so that there is no law and order situation in Shillong and Tura. We will deploy all security forces and if necessary we will seek for more additional central forces.
I want to assure everyone that no one must have doubts, we will deploy necessary forces to maintain law and order situation,” Conrad Sangma said.
The incident where 1 labourer died after brutally assaulted by masked miscreants took place early on Wednesday in Mawlai Mawroh, just fifteen days after the brutal murders of two individuals in East Khasi Hill’s Ichamati.
The victim identified as Arjun Ray (52 years) got severely injured and later passed away at NEIGHRIMS.
