Cannot Intervene Directly Into the Ongoing Matters of NEHU: Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma

We hope that everything settles down and that students' lives and careers are not affected, CM said.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday refused to intervene directly into the ongoing matters of NEHU.
Sangma, who has been closely monitoring the situation in the university, emphasized that the state government’s priority lies in safeguarding the larger interests of the students.
Speaking to media, Sangma said, “As I have been mentioning from day one that this is an autonomous body which is completely controlled by Centre and therefore, the state government does not normally intervene in day to day functioning since it’s a central university.”
“But whenever asked for any advice or any support, we have always done our best to do that. When this issue first occurred, a number of individuals and stakeholders asked me to speak to Delhi. I did so, and based on those communications and multiple conversations with the Central Ministry, everyone was able to reach this stage, where an inquiry community was established,” CM Sangma added.
“Therefore, we hope that everything settles down and that students’ lives and careers are not affected. The state government remains ready to provide support or inputs whenever required, particularly when it aligns with the interests of the NEHU students”, Conrad further added.
Meanwhile, the two-member inquiry committee appointed by the Central Government has completed its investigation into the NEHU issue and returned to New Delhi.
The inquiry committee, comprising Prof. D.P. Singh, former UGC Chairman, and Prof. Dilip Chandra Nath, former Vice Chancellor of Assam University, is tasked with preparing a report based on their findings. The report is expected to be submitted by November 29.
