Army Sepoy Aibok Madur from Meghalaya Dies in Siachen Glacier; State Govt Announces Rs 20 Lakh Ex-Gratia to Next of Kin

His funeral will be held today at his native village- Lyngkhoi.

Sepoy Aibok Madur, a member of the 10th Battalion of the Assam Regiment from Meghalaya died in the line of duty while stationed at the Siachen Glacier- a critical, strategic triangle that India has wedged between Pakistan and China.

Sepoy Madur made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty in Siachen Glacier on November 7, 2024, exemplifying unparalleled bravery and commitment to duty.

Hailing from Mawbri village in Ri Bhoi district of Meghalaya, Sepoy Madur’s heroic act has left a lasting legacy of patriotism and courage.

His body has been brought home and the funeral will be held today at his native village- Lyngkhoi.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma condoled his demise and said, “His selfless act of valour will never be forgotten. We honour his sacrifice and remember his unwavering dedication to our Nation. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Sepoy Madur’s family, and we stand in solidarity with them during this immense hour of grief. The state government extends its full support and deepest sympathies to the bereaved family. May Sepoy Aibok Madur’s courage and sacrifice inspire future generations, and may his legacy live on forever in our hearts.”

The Meghalaya government in recognition of his bravery and sacrifice, has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 20 lakh to the next of kin of Madur.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma expressed his deep condolences and praised the soldier for his selflessness, saying, “Sepoy Aibok Madur was a true hero who gave his life for the safety and honour of our nation. His sacrifice will always be remembered, and his family will be supported in this difficult time.”

“While paying homage to Sepoy Aibok Madur from the 10th Battalion of the Assam Regiment, the state government will provide an ex-gratia of Rs 20 lakh to the next of kin of the braveheart. The braveheart made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty in Siachen on November 7, 2024,” said CM Sangma in a subsequent tweet.

The state government has also assured full support his family during this immense hour of grief.
