5 Bangladeshi nationals arrested in Meghalaya

The five arrested individuals have been identified as Jahangir Ali (21), Jaidul Islam (30), Durul Ali (37), Maruf Ali (19), and Babu Sheikh (22), all from Rajshahi, Bangladesh.

5 Bangladeshi nationals who had illegally crossed the Indo-Bangladesh border near Baghmara, South Garo Hills in Meghalaya were arrested in Meghalaya on Thursday.

The State Police was conducting routine vehicle checking near KGBV School in Zikzak, West Garo Hills on the Assam-Meghalaya border.

During the checking, police intercepted a suspicious vehicle coming from Gapinathkilla towards Hatsingimari in Assam. 5 occupants were found to be traveling in the car without valid documents.

Upon investigation, it was found that the passengers were Bangladeshi nationals who had illegally crossed the Indo-Bangladesh border near Baghmara. They were planning to go to Kolkata to work as laborers.

Police also recovered several items from their possession, including 5 fake Indian Aadhaar cards, 2 mobile phones, an Indian Airtel SIM card, and products made in Bangladesh, such as nasal drops and cream.

The five arrested individuals have been identified as Jahangir Ali (21), Jaidul Islam (30), Durul Ali (37), Maruf Ali (19), and Babu Sheikh (22), all from Rajshahi, Bangladesh.

The suspects have been taken into custody for further questioning.

Earlier, on November 11, the Border Security Force (BSF) along with Meghalaya police nabbed 11 Bangladeshi nationals from the International border of South West Garo Hills (SWGH) and East Khasi Hills (EKH) for attempting to infiltrate into Indian Territory.
