As the search drags on, hope begins to wrestle with despair
Ten days have passed since a newlywed couple from Indore went missing in the rain-soaked hills of Sohra, and still, there is no sign of them.
Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi had travelled to Meghalaya to celebrate the start of their married life. They arrived in Nongriat on May 22 and were last seen on May 23 after checking out of a homestay with a local guide. A day later, their abandoned scooty was found near Sohrarim. Since then, they have vanished without a trace.
Their disappearance has sparked a massive search operation. Over 100 personnel from East Khasi Hills Police, divided into four specialised search and rescue teams, are combing the rugged terrain.
Torrential rains have made the mission extremely difficult. Sohra has recorded nearly 800 mm of rainfall in just five days, turning paths into slippery traps and triggering landslides. Despite these dangers, the rescue teams press on, driven by determination and duty.
As the search drags on, hope begins to wrestle with despair. The couple’s family remains on edge, clinging to the faintest possibility of their safe return.
Vipin Raghuvanshi, Raja’s brother, has issued a heartfelt plea to the government. He has urged authorities to deploy central paramilitary forces to support the ongoing efforts on the ground.
So far, there has been no breakthrough. But the Meghalaya Police continue to risk their lives in rain-soaked ravines and dangerous cliffs, holding onto every thread of hope.
For the family, every passing hour feels like eternity. For the search teams, every effort is a silent prayer for a miracle.
