Tripartite Talks on Rollback of Manipur’s 7 Districts Concludes; Next Round of Discussions Scheduled for Jan 2025

The second round of tripartite talks between the Government of India, Government of Manipur, and the United Naga Council (UNC) over the demand for the rollback of the creation of 7 new districts in Manipur concluded without deadlock today at the Senapati District Headquarters in Manipur.
While the representatives from the Government of Manipur expressed their inability to present a concrete proposal during this session due to certain difficulties, the UNC strongly insisted that a clear proposal be submitted in the next round of talks.
The UNC raised concerns over the lack of a definitive solution but emphasized the importance of continuing discussions in a constructive manner.
The participants reiterated their commitment to resolving the matter politically, respecting previous agreements.
It was agreed that the next round of talks would take place in the last week of January 2025, also at the Senapati District Headquarters.
Despite the challenges, the meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere, and all parties agreed to engage in further dialogue to address the issue in a time-bound manner.
The meeting was attended by AK. Mishra, Advisor (NE), Government of India, N. Ashok Kumar IAS, Commissioner (Home), Government of Manipur, Ng. Lorho, President, United Naga Council (UNC), Vareiyo Shatsang, General Secretary, UNC, Priscilla Thiumai, President, NWU and Luikang Luckson, President, ANSAM.
